We all suffer from stress. Some types of stress are good and there are those personality types that need the stress to produce outstanding quality of work on time. There are however some other types of stress which are detrimental to our mental and physical health. Continuous stress if not dealt with correctly can lead to other mental health problems such as anxiety and depression, physical sicknesses, the feeling of isolation from God, social disconnection and withdrawal.
Mental health issues cannot be just simplified to ‘You should think more positive’ or ‘Just keep praying and believe for your healing.’ While those are good and right things to do, there needs to be a balanced approach which we find in Scripture. Luke 2.52 states that Jesus grew mentally, physically, spiritually and socially. It is important that each of us live our lives in such a way that we give attention as best as we can to each of these four keys areas. All four are interlinked and cannot be separated and all are important.
Your peace, physical condition, relationship with God and connection with others is important because that is the way God created us. Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
