1 Timothy 4.10-16

My favourite cartoon when I was a kid was The Road Runner, and it is still my favourite to this day.

We can learn a valuable lesson from this old yet funny cartoon, and that is perseverance.

Wile E. Coyote would constantly be buying gadgets and equipment made by the ACME company (I wonder if he earned loyalty points). He would set up his latest attempt to catch the Road Runner and wait patiently on the side of the road or behind a rock. When he thought it was the right time, he would light a fuse or pull a trigger release or flick a switch in an attempt to catch the Road Runner.
No one would have blamed Coyote for giving up based on the amount of times he had boulders land on top of him, him falling off a very tall cliff or be in the middle of an explosion. So why did he keep going?

Wile E. Coyote was determined to achieve his goal not matter what. His goal was to catch and consume that Road Runner and he persevered no matter how much time, energy and expense it would take.

As disciples of Jesus Christ and leaders of young people, we need to have a determination to persevere to demonstrate and tell as many as we can of God’s love, grace and mercy for each and every person, regardless of what they have done. God himself demonstrated His perseverance by continually sending prophets to speak to the people of Israel even though the religious leaders had a habit of killing them. God went to great expense to even give His one and only Son so that the world would be able to come into relationship with Him.

‘Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.’ 1 Tim 4.16.
